Former NBA champ and longtime coach Dennis Hopson joined Florida Polytechnic University’s Men’s Basketball program as head coach in 2026.
Hopson brings decades of experience as a standout player and a winning coach, highlighted by an NBA championship win with the iconic 1991 Chicago Bulls team.
A former first-round NBA Draft pick, Hopson played with the New Jersey Nets and Sacramento Kings before shifting his love of the game to coaching.
Before joining Florida Poly, Hopson spent five seasons at Lourdes University, where the Gray Wolves won nearly 100 games, made three straight national tournament appearances and achieved an incredible 99% student-athlete graduation rate.
He also was an assistant coach at Northwood University in Palm Beach, Florida, and Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio.
Hopson holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, where he was the All American and 1987 Big Ten Conference Player of the Year.
At Florida poly, Hopson wants the squad to reflect six core values: family, integrity, balance, respect, attitude and leadership.
“We want high-character people who can get it done in the classroom,” he said.
