Phoenix Dominate Warriors in 4-0 Victory

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Florida Polytechnic University Men's Soccer continued its 2026 campaign in impressive fashion Tuesday night, earning a 4-0 victory over Webber International University in Auburndale. The Phoenix scored twice in each half, received goals from four different players and kept the Warriors off the scoreboard to begin the season 1-0. Florida Poly finished the contest with a 17-8 advantage in shots and placed 11 attempts on goal.

Florida Poly wasted little time taking control, as Kaden Curtin put the Phoenix ahead just 3:53 into the match. The early goal allowed Florida Poly to settle into the contest, and the Phoenix continued to apply pressure as the opening half progressed. Felipe Romero forced a save in the 17th minute before Florida Poly generated three corner kicks in a span of less than three minutes. Johnathan Brangman nearly doubled the advantage in the 24th minute, but his attempt was stopped by Webber goalkeeper Alejandro Moreno.

The Phoenix eventually broke through again in the 27th minute. Adrian Arteaga found the back of the net at 26:09 off an assist from Ahmad Hijaz, pushing Florida Poly's advantage to 2-0. The Phoenix defense did its part to preserve the lead, limiting Webber to three firsthalf shots. Goalkeeper Andres Villegas stopped attempts from Dylan Salomon and Norbey Rincon Miranda as Florida Poly carried its two-goal advantage into halftime. Florida Poly continued creating opportunities immediately after the break. Fernando Martinez and Brangman each put shots on target in the opening minutes of the second half, while Villegas answered a stretch of Webber pressure by making three saves between the 55th and 57th minutes. The Phoenix defense weathered that spell and kept the Warriors from cutting into the deficit.

The Phoenix put the match away late in the second half. Ahmad Hijaz made it 3-0 at 80:07, finishing an opportunity created by Ray Gutierrez. Hijaz finished the night with two points after recording a goal and an assist. Less than five minutes later, Peter Janzen added the fourth and final goal at 84:51, sealing the 4-0 result. Curtin, Arteaga, Hijaz and Janzen accounted for Florida Poly's four goals, while Hijaz and Gutierrez supplied the team's two assists.

Florida Poly's defensive performance complemented the four-goal attack. The Phoenix held Webber to eight total shots and five shots on goal while producing 17 attempts and 11 shots on frame themselves. Florida Poly also earned six corner kicks compared with two for Webber. Villegas played the first 80:07 in goal and made all five of Florida Poly's saves before Porter Malloy handled the final 9:53 to complete the team shutout.
